TRAGEDY OF THE US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.

07-11-2020

"If the voting numbers hold, Trump won’t be in office much longer. But his imprint on the Republican Party is permanent. This much has been clear since the day he won the presidency, and it has grown clearer each hour since. The impulsive governing and the disregard for the rule of law, the undermining of allies and the embracing of tyrants, the schoolyard taunts and the vulgar sentiments — all of this will live on. It will be central to his legacy and to the party’s. And yet nothing will prove as enduring as his delegitimizing of the office he holds and the democratic process that elected him to it. Nothing can repair the damage done by a sustained effort to subvert the nation’s bedrock institution and diminish public confidence in it. Nothing that happens to the GOP moving forward can erase the memory of the president telling the American people their votes were stolen — and Republicans, not bothering with evidence, nodding along in agreement."

Ther above quote is from an article in Politico, no left wing periodical. It makes quite clear, that Republican complicity with Trump's anti-demoractic and despicable behavior, is likely to break the Repuiblican Party.

There is more, however, to say about Trump's behavior as an anti-democratic leader: Such leaders, I learned, always blame their adversaries for wrong-doing, theyare themselves practicing. When he blames the Democrats for fraud, he most likely has organised such fraud himself.   One can just hope that the Courts, up to and including the Supreme Court of the United States  will uphold the Constitution and nothing else.

Footprints of the 20th Century

Footprints of the 20th Century - Third Edition

Description

The peaceful collapse of the Soviet totalitarian, communist system has been a watershed of historic proportions in Europe and the world. In 1989, unexpectedly, Communism and the Cold War were behind us, they were bad and should be forgotten. The immediate post-1989 world presented itself as a new era of organised forgetting, as neither East nor West were interested in examining the prolonged period of acquiescence in absurdities.

European Unification into the Twenty First Century

Footprints of the 20th Century - Third Edition

Description

The story of European Unification is fascinating. In 1950, two sworn enemies – France and Germany – decide to seek reconciliation and European federal unity. As a first step, they created the European Coal and Steel Community together with Italy and the Benelux countries. The fathers of this new Europe were visionary persons. Does today`s student or scholar still know who Robert Schuman, Konrad Adenauer, Alcide de Gasperi or Willem Beyen were and what they stood for?
