THE RETURN TO IMPERIALISM

21-01-2026

MAGA: Make America Go Away! Putin and Trump both are driven by revenge and day dreaming of the past. They are not burdened by moral principles but cherish revenge and self admiration; two ingredients for their return to 19th. century imperialism. They resent multilateral cooperation. They reject international law. They dislike democracy. In the case of Trump, the United States must go back to the era before President Wilson's call for making the world safe for democracy. As always in history such dictators are given free room for mischief.

Once united with the United States, Europe was given a chance to unify in peace and respect for law and human rights. The Europeans took too long to unify and missed their unique chance to move the world away from power politics and towards a rule of law. Now Europe is confronted with Russian and American imperialism. Trump grabbing Greenland will  be the end of NATO; his self-proclaimed morality will allow Putin to destroy Ukraine.

Neither Justice nor Order

Footprints of the 20th Century - Third Edition

Description

This fifth and final volume offers a critical assessment of the state of the law of nations. In the twenty first century the world needs true global law anchored in the dignity of the human person rather than weak international law built on the interests of major sovereign states.

Western Cooperation

Footprints of the 20th Century - Third Edition

Description

For the study of international relations, knowledge of the history of Western Cooperation in the Twentieth Century is essential. The third volume reviews the broader history from America’s entry in the First World War in 1917 and the start of the American Era in international relations one hundred years ago, to the inauguration of President Trump in 2017.
